Cardiff & Met will make a little bit of history when they step out onto the turf at Barcelona’s Pau Negre Stadium. Not only will it be their first ever appearance in the world’s finest club hockey competition, they will also the first team from Wales to do so after the nation edged into the top twelve of the EHL Rankings table. The team, which competes in the second tier of the England Hockey League, has a number of senior Welsh internationals amongst their ranks, including Mark Whatling, Jonathan Gordon and Owain Dolan Gray. The team will have their work cut out against Pool D rivals Beeston and fellow EHL newcomers Harvestehuder THC, but it would be foolish to write off this talented group.
